Our Privacy Promise

Most price sites ask you to trade a little privacy for a free service. This one does not. There is no tracking, no advertising and no cookie wall on PreciousMetalPrices.com — and none of that has to be taken on trust, because every claim on this page can be checked from your own browser in under a minute.

What we do NOT do

  • No Google Analytics — There is no analytics suite behind this site at all: no Google Analytics, no Matomo, no Plausible, no self-hosted equivalent.
  • No advertising — No banners, no sponsored placements, no affiliate links to bullion dealers. Nothing you read here has been paid for by anyone hoping to sell you metal.
  • No cookies — Nothing is stored for tracking, marketing or measurement. That is precisely why you never had to dismiss a consent banner to get to the prices.
  • No fingerprinting — Your browser, screen, fonts and hardware are never sampled to build a device signature.
  • No data selling — There is no personal data to sell. None is collected, none is retained, none is passed to a third party.

What we do

  • SSL/TLS A+ — The connection is encrypted end to end and rated A+ by independent testing: HSTS, modern cipher suites and OCSP stapling throughout.
  • Hosted in Germany — The servers sit in Hetzner data centres in Germany, so nothing is processed on infrastructure outside European data protection law.
  • EU CDN with DDoS protection — Static assets are served by bunny.net in Slovenia, with a web application firewall and DDoS mitigation in front. Faster pages, European jurisdiction, no US hyperscaler in the request path.
  • UK GDPR and EU GDPR — The site is built to satisfy both regimes at once. Because almost nothing is collected in the first place, data minimisation is not a policy statement here but the actual architecture.
  • Open-source technology — The application runs on Laravel, a widely audited open-source framework. No proprietary tracking library and no third-party script is loaded into the page.
  • Market data — Precious metal prices drawn from professional market data feeds, updated daily.

Anonymous Page View Measurement

We do want to know which pages earn their place, so page views are counted. The counting is designed so that it cannot identify anyone, even if someone went looking through the raw records deliberately.

What we measure

The path that was requested (for example the gold price page), plus four coarse statistical buckets: desktop or mobile, browser family, operating system and language preference. The buckets are stored as counts, never joined into a profile.

What we do NOT measure

No IP address, no session identifier, no visitor ID, no dwell time, no click path, no returning-visitor recognition. Every view stands alone; attributing two of them to the same person is not merely against policy, it is technically impossible with what is recorded.

How it works technically

A page load sends one small request to our own server — a beacon carrying nothing but the path. Device and browser categories are read from the standard User-Agent header your browser already sends with every request. No cookie is written, no fingerprinting script runs, and nothing leaves our infrastructure.

What that yields is a line such as "the gold price page was viewed 500 times today, 60 per cent of them on a phone". What it can never yield is "this visitor checked the gold price at 14:32 and then opened the calculator". It works like the counter above a shop door: it knows how many people came in, and nothing whatsoever about who they were.

Verifiable

None of the above should be believed simply because a website says so. Here is how to check it:

Press F12, open the Network tab and reload this page. There is no call to Google, none to Facebook, none to any advertising or analytics endpoint — because none exists. The only record kept is which path was requested, written server-side, with no cookie, no third party and no permanent storage of your IP address.

Why this matters

A gold price site funded by advertising and dealer commissions has a structural problem: the analytics tag watches every click, the consent banner blocks the content you came for, and the audience data ends up with ad networks. The incentive is to keep you moving towards a purchase, not to tell you what a fair price looks like.

This site is deliberately built the other way round. It gives UK readers live prices, calculators and guides, and it does not bill you for them in personal data.

Cookie banner? No!
